RESTAURANT REVIEW: Mann Hann at Rockwell Business Center Mandaluyong

As someone who used to live in the heart of Chinese cuisine, Binondo, we never really try a lot of Chinese restaurants outside of it, especially chain establishments. Partly because we know restaurants in Binondo are as authentic as Chinese food can get, but also partly because when surrounded by so many Chinese restaurants where you live, you’ll unlikely crave it when you’re elsewhere.

Dane was the one who introduced me to Mann Hann when we were still dating. It’s one of his favorite Chinese restaurants along with his family. When he first took me to the Mann Hann SM Megamall branch, I instantly fell in love. Mann Hann became an easy go-to for us when we didn’t know what to eat and wasn’t craving anything else. It became a constant favorite and craving so much so that I have even taken my family as well many times and have ordered it for my team in my previous employment.

Suffice to say, I can’t believe I am now just blogging about this Chinese restaurant.

Now, when we moved in together, we found out that there was a nearby Mann Hann branch where we live—Rockwell Business Center Sheridan Mandaluyong. It’s even an advantage to us because it was nearer to our place and had less foot traffic than SM Megamall.

Now on to the food.

Mapo Tofu of Mann Hann - Grow Up, Grow Old

One of the dishes we order in every Mann Hann branch every single time is their Mapo Tofu.

It’s savory and salty in just the right amount and the silken tofu almost melts in your mouth.

Our only concern is what we found as an inconsistency. Some branches served theirs spicy by default while others don’t.

But apart from that, it’s the best Mapo Tofu we both ever had and the constant reason for ordering another cup of extra rice.

Mapo Tofu: P365 (1-2 pax)

Another staple in our Mann Hann date is their Fried Squid. Some may think that it’s an easy dish to make at home and expensive to order outside, but it always hits the spot with its consistency.

What I love best is the proportion of squid to batter. Unlike other restaurants that may add so much batter to make the serving look bigger, in Mann Hann, it’s just the right amount. It’s also always crispy, seasoned well, and never greasy. It’s one of our favorite partners to Mapo Tofu.

I’m an avid Hakaw fan, it’s my favorite dimsum out of the several types available because shrimp is one of my most favorite food in the world.

Unfortunately, Mann Hann’s Hakaw is not one of our top picks. The wrapper is nice and thin which is difficult to do well.

Their Hakaw is also plump and full which justifies the high price, but I personally prefer my Hakaw in a balanced proportion of wrapper to filling. I also prefer to taste the ginger when I eat it.

Hakaw: P210 (3pcs)

Dane and I’s Rating: 3.5/5

Mann Hann’s lemon iced tea is also the beverage we order every time we dine in. It’s not as good as Rafaelle’s (which we still think about every now and then), but it’s definitely a decent addition to round up the meal.

Honey Lemon Iced Tea: P250 (1 liter)

Dane and I’s Rating: 4/5

  • Bang for Buck: 4.5/5
  • Ambiance: 4.5/5
  • Service: 5/5
  • Would we eat here again? Yes!! Mann Hann has always been our go-to favorites!
