RESTAURANT REVIEW: Souv by Cyma Greek Restaurant Podium Mandaluyong

Dane and I have been binge-watching the People vs Food Youtube Channel recently. In one of their segments called Americans Try __ Food for the First Time, we’ve seen so many dishes from different cultures that made our mouths water. One of them is Greek food. We realized from watching the show that we haven’t really exposed ourselves to different cuisines, and while we love our Japanese, Italian, Chinese, and Korean dishes, we’ve really been in a very safe and comfortable box.

So we pledged to expose ourselves to new cuisines from another culture and we ended up trying Greek cuisine from Souv by Cyma in Podium Mandaluyong.

We decided to ask one of the servers to recommend food to us, as it was our first time trying Greek dishes. Spoiler alert: that was a good decision!

Cyma Roka Salata at Souv by Cyma - Grow Up, Grow Old

The first suggestion we got was Roka Salata. It’s romaine lettuce and arugula with sundried tomatoes, candied walnuts, parmigiano reggiano, and Greek vinaigrette.

It’s quite a pricey dish considering it’s mostly greens, but it’s a huge serving size and tastes great—especially the walnuts that were a good combination of sweetness, saltiness, and texture. Everything was fresh and the vinaigrette is the perfect dressing to complete the dish. It’s definitely one of the dishes that we’ll order again!

Roka Salata: P450 (2-3 people)

Another recommendation was the Chicken wrap with a free side of Oregano and Feta Fries. It’s especially expensive for what it is, but Dane enjoyed the wrap so well as a burrito and wraps person. It’s the right combination of ingredients and in good proportion to their thick pita bread.

The fries though is pretty okay—good but nothing to rejoice about. It goes well with the wrap, but one concern was the difficulty of eating both fries and feta cheese at the same time.

The last recommendation we got is a Greek cuisine staple, Shawarma rice. They had a lot of options ranging from different meat, poultry, and seafood. In the end, it made sense for us to try a combo choice of three different kinds of meatbeef, chicken, and lamb. This was served with Saffron-scented Basmati rice and grilled tomatoes and red onions.

The presentation was 10/10. When the dish came out it made our mouths water. I’m a meat lover so this dish was targeted for me. On the other hand, Dane loves all types of shawarma, so this dish came out to be a good match for us.

All the meats were flavorful and tender, and you can almost feel each texture of the basmati in every bite as well. I’d say it was an experience.

We also had their in-house iced tea (P110 per glass). It was very different than what you would normally expect from an iced tea, and up until the last drop, we couldn’t really decide if it was good, bad, or just something we’re not used to.

It’s both a good and bad thing that we live in Mandaluyong where Greek cuisines like Souv by Cyma are accessible. And we can’t wait to try all other cuisines too!

Overall Rating:

  • Taste: 4.5/5
  • Bang for Buck: 4.5/5
  • Ambiance: 4.5/5
  • Service: 5/5
  • Would we eat here again? Yes!!
