RESTAURANT REVIEW: Duck & Buvette French Restaurant at EDSA Shangri-La Plaza Mandaluyong

Fifteen years ago, Dane and I met. And exactly a year ago, we got married. And today, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary in Duck & Buvette, a French casual restaurant and bakery in EDSA Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong.

Octopus Salad at Duck and Buvette EDSA Shang-ri La - Grow Up, Grow Old

Dane picked out the place to take me for a date. So before our visit he was able to check the menu and the Octopus Salad immediately caught his interest.

You can’t go wrong with octopus, and it was cooked well, grilled, adding the much-needed punch to the mixed greens and the light lemon-chili-hazelnut dressing.

On the other hand, we still think about Souv’s salad from time to time.

Octopus Salad: P480 (1-2 people)

Dane and I’s Rating: 4/5

The Slow Braised Beef Burgundy of Duck and Buvette is beef ribs and pork belly braised 6 hours with red wine burgundy sauce. It includes plain white rice said to be good for 2-3 people but we think it’s only for 1 to 2 max.

It’s not very appetizing on first look but the meat is very tender and easy to eat. You can taste the red wine’s flavor in the sauce coming through from hours of stewing.

Dane was fond of this dish so much. In fact, it was his favorite among all our orders. If we didn’t have any other plans for the day, he would have asked for the remaining sauce for takeout. I, on the other hand, don’t think it’s anything special. It’s delicious, but it’s also not a must-try personally.

Slow Braised Beef Burgundy: P990 (2-3 people)

Dane and I’s Rating: 4/5

8-hour Angus Beef Brisket at Duck and Buvette EDSA Shang-ri La - Grow Up, Grow Old

Dane knew that the 8 Hours Angus Brisket is right up my alley. Black Angus Beef. Slow roasted. Roast garlic potato mash. Mushroom sauce. Everything I like in one dish.

They stayed true to their menu description with the melts-in-your-mouth black angus beef. It’s very tender with the smoky flavor lending so much to its overall impact. The mashed potato’s texture which is slightly lumpy and creamy is definitely how I like mine. Dane is the opposite though!

The sauce however left a slight off aftertaste, but it doesn’t ruin the dish. Overall, it’s my favorite of the three dishes we got!

8 Hours Angus Briskets: P540 (good for 1)

Dane and I’s Rating: 4.5/5

We also ordered their House Blend Iced Tea (P130 a glass) and it was a good accompanying beverage for easy palate cleanse, but nothing worth noting.

One of their most popular dishes is the D&B Half Duck Confit (P1890), unfortunately, we weren’t able to order it this time. Definitely something we want to try out next!

Overall Rating:

  • Taste: 4/5
  • Bang for Buck: 4/5
  • Ambiance: 3.5/5
  • Service: 3.5/5
  • Would we eat here again? Yes.
